Life Lately

My posting schedule has been a bit erratic lately, so I wanted to give you guys a glimpse into my life lately — workouts, eats, and just life in general. Enjoy!

Life in General Lately:

So it turns out, planning a wedding is pretty stressful.

Who knew?

About a week ago, my busy season at work ended with a huge sigh of relief from me. However, immediately following that sigh came the realization that my wedding is two months away, and there seems to be an endless check list of things that still need to be done. Things that have been ignored because of work stress. Things that now need to be done, and I feel like I just don’t know where to start.

Cue the panic!!

Anyway, besides all of the wedding shenanigans, I’ve also just been trying to resume my normal life again. Every year from about December until April, I turn into a hermit due to a combination of Boston weather keeping me indoors and my crazy work schedule. Once the late spring hits and work calms down, I can finally come out of hibernation and start having a social life again!  No longer working many late nights, I have been trying to make plans to reconnect with friends that I haven’t seen in a while and connect with new friends as well. This means that I’ve been a busy busy bee, but I’m not complaining — even with all of the wedding craziness going on, life is pretty darn good right now!

Last week was a busy one with a friends birthday, visiting my friend Missy and her beautiful  new baby girl, a baby shower for another lovely friend, and a couple of dinners out. One of these dinners just happened to be with two awesome bloggers, Caroline and Athena, who I met at a New Balance event months ago. The three of us have been trying to connect for dinner ever since, and due to all of our crazy schedules it finally just happened! I don’t know how we didn’t get a picture, but we had a blast and I can’t wait to meet up with those ladies again!

Workouts Lately:

There was a little while recently where I was in high stress mode, and my workouts definitely took a hit. I was feeling tired, sore, and lethargic, and worst of all lacking any sort of motivation. Two weeks ago I decided to take an entire week off from working out, and I’m so glad I did. Since then, I’ve had some great lifts, hill runs, and stadium runs. I even went for a run last weekend, which I find pretty funny because I honestly can’t remember the last time I ever just “went out for a run”. Granted, it was not long, but I did about 4-5 miles, with a little bit of run/walk intervals for the second half. Not too bad for someone who doesn’t run, eh? But don’t worry, whatever got into me that day has since disappeared, and it’s been back to stadium runs and hill sprints ever since. 😉

Lifting wise, things have been good. I’ve continued to feel stronger in my deadlift, although I haven’t maxed in a while so I don’t know what kind of progress I’ve made. For some reason, I’ve started to dread bench press days, and have really tried to mix up my upper body routine with a lot of push ups, row variations, overhead presses, rope swings, and different variations of the corner barbell press. I haven’t totally abandoned bench pressing, but heavy bench has been so low on my list of priorities. I feel like I need some tires to flip or something — something to pique my interest and up my  motivation again.

Food lately:

For those of you who have been regular readers for a while (thanks!!), you’re probably aware that I’ve spent the last 2-3 years eating greek yogurt for breakfast almost every single day. I tend to do this for breakfasts, eat the same thing over and over — it was a weird cereal mix for a few years before I switched to yogurt. And then for some reason last week, I stopped. All of a sudden I ran out of yogurt and had no desire to buy more. I’ve mixed it up a little bit, but the most consistent breakfast I’ve had lately is two hard boiled eggs and a banana with peanut butter.   I’m sure I’m not done with yogurt bowls because I still love them, but I guess I’m off my kick of eating one every single day.  The only thing is that I have a very limited palate when it comes to early morning eats — there aren’t many things that I can stomach at 6 am.

And as much as I would love to say that I only eat the most healthy choices — actually, I wouldn’t love to say that, because honestly, what is the fun in that?! But last week was a little bit more than the occasional indulgences! With multiple dinners out, the baby shower and some celebrations at work, I was surrounded by delicious treats all week. While I kept myself relatively in check most of the time, I did have the most delicious sandwich that I wish I could eat every single day — this Turkey Ruben from a little hole in the wall here in Boston called Mike and Patty’s rocked my world. Never mind the fact that it was followed up later that night with a giant burger. Let’s just say that the next day included a big ass salad for lunch. As much as I love to indulge, it’s all about balance. And  cupcakes. Balance and cupcakes. Right?

SandwichMy turkey ruben from Mike and Patties. Ah, heaven. In a perfect world, this would be health food so I could eat it every day.

So that, my friends, is my life lately in a nutshell.

Readers: What is your favorite go-to breakfast? Are you more of a savory or sweet breakfast eater? Have you included anything new and exciting into your workouts lately?

  1. I feel you on the crazy life! My working out has been sporadic, my runs are still often and I’ve added bike! I am back to looking at some interval training to shake off the funk. Breakfast has been my green smoothie! Nom. But by 1000 I’m generally hungry so looking for a snack idea

  2. Good to see I’m not the only one whose training gets knocked side ways when life gets in the way! Fair play 🙂

  3. My wedding is in six weeks so I totally understand how you feel!
As for me, I am a SWEETS kinda girl for breakfast, and most meals, ha. My favs are chocolate chip pancakes and lately I’ve been liking graham crackers with PB as a post morning workout snack. I used to drink chocolate milk religiously (like every day for the past six years!! but lately I just haven’t wanted it.)
Since I’m in the six week wedding crunch I’ve decided to increase my running to 5 days a week and added a plyo leg workout in addition to my already 3x/week lifts. It’ll be intense but I won’t workout the week of the honeymoon, as it will be a much earned break!
Good luck with all your wedding plans 🙂

  4. Sadly, I am a no brekky person. I tend to eat more during mid-day….However, I do tend to eat greek yogurt everynight as a snack. I freeze my yogurt and add some toppings to mix it up.

  5. I’m definitely a sweet person! I don’t mind cold savoury food (like cold frittata or something) but generally I go for something a bit sweeter. Lately I have been having a smoothie with banana, greek yoghurt, protein, spirulina, avocado/PB, cocoa powder and stevia. It’s like a thick chocolate milk and it is so delicious! On days that I need a bit of an extra kick I’ll also add a shot of coffee 🙂
